Porsche 987 Cayman 2.7L ECU Tune VRTuned.com June 16, 2016 Product Info When it comes to stepping outside the traditional 911 chassis that Porsche is known for, the Cayman and Boxster takes it’s place. The mid-engine sports car was designed to compete at the time with the likes of the BMW Z3, Honda S2000, Mazda Miata, and of course, shredded them to pieces. Porsche first came out with the Boxster with their 986 variant which lasted till 2004 when they released the 987 chassis in both the Boxster and the Cayman setups. Offered with a 2.7L engine for the base model and a 3.4L for the S model, the car became loads of fun to drive and affordable for those wanting to wear the Porsche name. Modifications are like any normally aspirated engine. More air in, more air out with balance. On these vehicles you can do basics such as a new high flow air filter, intake plenum, headers, and exhaust system. Most aftermarket exhaust systems delete the secondary cats leaving the primaries on the headers. With all these modifications or non at all, the biggest difference is a performance ECU remap. VR Tuned does OBDII ECU tuning for the Porsche 987 2.7L vehicles. Our customer in Norway wanted to juice up his Cayman that was equipped with all the above mentioned mods. The read time of the 64kb file is about 2 minutes. Once the file is read out, we do the performance mapping and then email it back where it takes another 2 minutes to write. The outcome… better throttle response, more torque, more horsepower, and overall improvement throughout the entire RPM range.
