We love getting customer photos and feedback about our process of ECU Flashing the Porsche cars. It really is very simple to do and dumbed down with easy to follow step by step instructions as see here. Recently one of our customers flashed his Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet with our VR Tuned product. The 996 C2 3.4L is a car that we personally owned as well and can definitely identify with the performance upgrades needed to make it a more enjoyable experience. From Europe, our customer Victor had already started by adding a IPD Plenum, Cold Air Intake, and Sports Muffler. Each one of these mods affects the car differently. The exhaust is great because from the factory, the car really does not have a sporty tone. Doing a exhaust system on a normally aspirated car requires and fine line of exhaust flow and maintaining backpressure to not lose low end power. The cold air intakes help with throttle responsiveness and have been dyno tested successfully. The intakes generally lean out the car which creates the additional power feeling from the increased airflow. Behind the throttlebody is the IPD plenum. This piece is designed to directionalize the airflow once it gets through the throttlebody to each intake manifold. All of these are great bolt-on parts but because they cause changes to different aspects of the power curve, an ECU tune is really what pulls them together. Much like the previous article we wrote about with the Cayman, the 996 Carrera NA motor is really about the overall performance in the power curve. Seeing huge peak gains on a dynamometer will not be actualized unless the conditions, cooling, and setup are not changed. Really performance is realized if you were to measure using a GPS Performance Box or moreover, just in your daily driving routine. With changes to the torque limiter, ignition, and fueling, the 996 Carrera is a great platform to do a ECU flash on. As far as the ECU flashing process goes, our customer told us, “…the flash process was wery easy. It only took a couple of minutes to do the entire flash. It was true plug and play I must say. It was also wery fast to get the tuned file in return. Dan returned the file in just 46 minutes! Impressive! Since I bought a new IPDplenum at the same time as the ECUflash, I had to install that to. It took me around 45 minutes to complete the installation…” Check out these pictures of this customers Porsche 996 Carrera and remember to leave any comments!
