» VR Tuned ECU Tuning Box Boosts Up Toyota GR Corolla

In this 3rd and final video of our Toyota GR Corolla project, we add the VR Tuned ECU Tuning Box to really power up the 1.6L 3 cylinder turbocharged engine. Having previously shown what the car does stock and the addition of the AWE catback exhaust, the VR Tuned tuning box really brings the power out. The tuning box is made in Germany and features bluetooth capabilities to easily install and control the settings via your smartphone. Tapping into the vehicles boost pressure sensor, manifold pressure sensor, and MAF sensor, the tuning box takes over the signals to the ECU to increase the power output.

The GR Corolla was tested on our Mustang AWD Dyno here in Arizona using 91 octane. The baseline horsepower at 5700 rpm was just above 250 awhp and about 275 lb/ft of torque. With the AWE catback exhaust we saw a gain of about 12 awhp to near 262 awhp. With the addition of the VR Tuned tuning box, we had a peak horsepower of 282 awhp which gave us about a 30 awhp gain over stock with the exhaust. The AWE exhaust uses 3 inch diameter piping which really helps the turbocharger flow better compared to stock. This is evident when you take a look at the torque numbers. At 4100 rpm the stock and with exhaust torque is about 246. With the VR Tuned tuning box we see a gain of nearly 40 lb/ft to just over 280 lb/ft of torque.

The VR Tuned ECU Tuning Box installs in 20 mins and gives the GR Corolla a much needed gain over stock. Showing the performance on the dyno with the addition of a quality catback exhaust really solidifies this platform is capable of so much more!
